Rapid response units were created to deal with natural disasters other than cyclones as part of the cyclone preparedness program to acquire multiple disaster response capabilities.
Notable Responsibilities: Responding to disasters such as torrential rains, landslides, fire, pandemic etc. Rescuing people in major road or in any other type of accidents. Support in restoring road transportation which was blocked due to cyclone/tornado/landslide. Disaster aftermath dead body management. Acting as a back-up force of regular responders in urban disasters in the coastal area.
